Harmony’s philosophy is that children gain success in developmentally appropriate, child-centered activities in a positive and culturally diverse environment. Our active learning experiences and adult-child interactions aid children in developing skills, habits and attitudes. Inclusive partnerships with parents strengthen our family-centered programmes.
Early Years Section
At Harmony, the classroom is an adventure. A child is given an opportunity to self-teach, an instinctive way of learning. The teacher’s role is to guide rather than dictate, enabling the child to discover him/herself at an individual pace.
Our professional teachers genuinely care about the children and have the sensitivity and knowledge to understand a child’s individual developmental needs and learning styles.
The curriculum offered at the school is about developing key learning skills such as creativity, speaking and listening, concentration, persistence problem solving and learning to work together and co-operating with other children. It is also about developing early literacy and numeracy skills that will prepare the children for Key Stage One of the Cambridge Curriculum/ Primary 1 of the Uganda National Curriculum.
Primary Section
Harmony Primary School caters for students aged between 5/6- 12 years. As both a Uganda National and Cambridge Curriculum based school, we value individuality and aim to develop within our students knowledge, wisdom skills and understanding of the differences and commonality of the peoples of the world.
Cambridge Curriculum
Cambridge Primary starts learners on an exciting educational journey, setting out what they should be able to do at each stage of their primary education. It develops young learners who are confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged. The programme develops skills and understanding in English, English as a Second Language, mathematics, science and Cambridge Global Perspectives through integration in teaching. It is for learners typically aged 5 to 11.
The Cambridge Curriculum is used as a basis for planning learning for all pupils from Year 1 to Year 6. We outline the knowledge, skills and content that pupils are expected to acquire as they move through each of the year groups.
Uganda National Curriculum
The Primary School Curriculum aims at enabling learners to develop competences and life skills for lifelong learning. It emphasizes the importance of literacy, numeracy, language development, values, attitudes, cross-cutting issues and continuous assessment. The curriculum advocates for the use of friendly child-centered and integrated teaching methods and approaches where learners must participate in their learning activities in order to make reasonable learning achievements. It aims at enabling learners to acquire self-confidence and meet the demands of life.
The Uganda Primary School Curriculum is presented in three cycles, namely:
- Lower Primary Curriculum
- Transition Curriculum
- Upper Primary Curriculum
